Aged care provider registration in progress

Self Managed

Your care, arranged your way.

Some people want the arranging taken off their hands. Others want to stay in the driver's seat — because they already have people they trust, because they like knowing exactly how things are set up, or simply because it is their life and they would rather run it.

Self Managed is for the second group. You lead the decisions. We handle the paperwork, the compliance and the payments.

Who does what

You keep the decisions. We keep the admin.

Your side

What you take on

  • Deciding what support you want and when
  • Having a say in who provides it
  • Being the main point of contact for your workers
  • Flagging when something needs to change
  • Keeping an eye on how your plan is tracking

Our side

What stays with us

  • Care planning and budget design with you
  • Checking every provider is compliant before they start
  • Paying invoices and processing reimbursements
  • Clinical support where it is required by your care plan
  • Monthly statements showing spend and remaining funding
  • Being there when you want a second opinion

Self managing does not mean going it alone. It means you are the one deciding, with someone experienced beside you and the compliance handled properly behind you.

Worth knowing

Our own service prices are the same either way.

For services SCL delivers directly, choosing Self Managed or Fully Coordinated does not change our published service price. If you ask us to engage a third party worker or provider, that service will have an agreed price which may differ.

Pick the model that suits how you want to live, and we will confirm the price of each service with you before it starts.

Is this you?

Self Managed suits some people much better than others.

It is probably a good fit if

  • You already have workers or providers you trust and want to explore keeping them
  • You like understanding exactly how things are arranged
  • You or a family member are comfortable being the main organiser
  • Your needs are relatively settled and predictable

Fully Coordinated might suit you better if

  • The organising is the part that puts you off getting support at all
  • You have complex needs requiring coordination across several providers
  • Family are involved but stretched, or not nearby
  • You would rather someone else chased the sick-day cover

How it works

Three stages, and you lead them.

Build the plan together

Your care partner helps you shape a plan and a budget. You decide what support looks like; they make sure it adds up and meets what your funding allows.

You take the lead on supports

You have a genuine say in who supports you and when. If there is already someone you trust, we can discuss whether they can continue, subject to SCL being able to engage them and confirm the required compliance arrangements.

We handle the paperwork

Invoices, payments, reimbursements, compliance checks, statements and reporting. The parts nobody enjoys stay with us.

What is included

Self managed, not unsupported.

Care management

  • A dedicated care partner who knows your situation
  • Care plan and budget design
  • Periodic reviews as your needs change

Funding administration

  • Invoices paid on your behalf
  • Reimbursements processed
  • Clear monthly statements showing spend and remaining funding

Compliance

  • Police checks, insurances and qualifications verified
  • Ongoing monitoring, not a one-off check at onboarding
  • We will tell you if a provider you want to use does not meet requirements

Clinical support

  • Registered nursing input where it is required by your care plan
  • Escalation when something is outside a support worker’s scope
  • Someone to call when you are unsure whether something is a problem

Questions

The things people ask before deciding.

Is Self Managed cheaper?

Not automatically. SCL’s published prices for services we deliver directly are the same whichever model you choose. If you ask us to engage a third party worker or provider, that service will have an agreed price which may differ. Choose the model based on fit rather than assuming one will always cost less.

How much work is this really?

More than Fully Coordinated, and we would rather be straight about that. You are the one making decisions about your supports and staying across how things are going. The admin, compliance and payments stay with us.

What if I get it wrong?

You have a care partner for exactly this reason. Self Managed does not mean unsupported — it means you are in the driver’s seat with someone experienced beside you.

Can I keep a worker I already have?

That can be one reason to choose this model. We would need to be able to engage the worker or provider to deliver services on our behalf and confirm the required compliance arrangements before their services can be funded through SCL. We will check that and tell you plainly either way.

Do I still get care management?

Yes. Care management is part of Support at Home for every participant, regardless of model. For ongoing services, 10% of your quarterly budget is allocated to care management. You are not opting out of support by self-managing.

What happens if my worker is sick?

Under Self Managed, arranging cover is largely on you — that is one of the genuine trade-offs. If that is the part you would rather avoid, Fully Coordinated exists for a reason.

Can I switch to Fully Coordinated later?

Yes, and people do. Circumstances change, needs get more complex, or the organising stops being manageable. It works the other way too. Neither is a one-way door.

Are you registered yet?

Not yet. We are progressing through aged care provider registration with the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, and we will say so clearly here the moment that changes.

Still weighing it up?

Tell us where you are up to and we will talk through which model actually suits your situation — including saying so if it is the other one.

Rather hand it over?

Fully Coordinated takes the arranging off you.

We source the workers, build the schedule and keep it running, while you keep every decision that matters. Care management stays in place, with required compliance and clinical support where needed.
